Sunflower House is a registered charity which was set up in 2014 and supports 4 community hubs and 50 projects in partnership with local groups, alongside our own work.
We have a total reach of around 4500 people per month.
Our core aim is community building: empowering individuals and our local community. We focus on food poverty; wellbeing & mental health; social isolation; employability and advice surgeries and self-expression through community theatre, community dance and community arts groups; writing and creative workshops
Our work is often focused on the more disadvantaged members of our community, including those who are homeless/at risk of homelessness, those with barely any visible means of support and those who have experienced significant challenges in their lives.
We are working with a group of four other community venues to create a community building network that shares ideas, resources and programmes for community benefit.
This approach appears to be unusual, but it works! Our long term strategic goal takes the idea of community partnership to the next level. We are one of the founding members of OneFolkestone as a growing partnership of community voices, sharing a belief in the future of Folkestone and celebrating the extraordinary range of people, projects and possibilities which are represented here.
